Privacy

A plain-language description of how CampusLease handles your information. It reflects how the site actually works today.

Last updated September 9, 2026

What we collect

  • Your email address (students use a university address) and the first name you enter.
  • Optional profile details you add: graduation year, major, and a short bio.
  • Listings you post: rent, dates, campus, neighborhood, amenities, description, and photos.
  • Roommate profile details: budget, preferred area, move-in date, and living habits.
  • Messages you send through CampusLease, saved listings, blocks, and reports you submit.

We do not ask for your NetID, university password, phone number, or a street address for a listing.

What is public

  • Approved listings: title, rent, dates, campus, general area, amenities, description, photos, and the poster's first name.
  • Roommate profiles: first name, university, class year and major if added, budget, area, move-in date, habits, and bio.
  • Verification badges (Verified Student, Verified Listing, Verified Property Manager).

Browsing is open without an account, so anything above can be seen by anyone on the web.

What stays private

  • Your email address is never shown on a profile, listing, or message.
  • Messages are visible only to the two people in the conversation.
  • Saved listings and block lists are visible only to you.
  • Reports are visible only to you and the CampusLease moderator.
  • Property manager applications (company, phone, business address) are visible only to you and the moderator.

How verification uses your email

When you confirm the sign-in link sent to a university address, we record that the address was confirmed and the date. That confirmation is what shows a Verified Student badge for 12 months. It proves control of the email address only — not identity or enrollment.

Moderation

A moderator can see reports, every listing (including drafts and pending ones), member verification status, and a history of moderation actions such as flags, takedowns, and suspensions. Moderators cannot read your private messages.

Deleting your content or closing your account

You can delete your own listings, roommate profile, and saved items at any time from your account. Deleting a listing also removes its photos.

To close your account entirely, open Account → Settings → Delete my account. This immediately and permanently removes your profile, verification record, listings and their photos, roommate profile, saved items, blocks, conversations and messages, any property manager application, and your sign-in email. It cannot be undone; you can create a new account later, but nothing is restored.

  • Reports you filed and moderation history are kept for safety purposes, with your account no longer attached to them.
  • Messages you sent disappear from the other person's inbox as well.
  • Routine database backups exist for disaster recovery only; deleted data ages out of them and is never used to restore a closed account.

If you cannot sign in, email admin@campuslease.net from the address you registered with and we will close the account for you.
